The Caves Edinburgh Wedding

December 02, 2013
Just a week ago I blogged about a wedding I photographed at the Rowantree venue in Edinburgh’s Old Town and this week I’m writing about another wedding I’ve shot in the same but different venue called the Caves. Both venues share the same building and are very similar in terms of lighting etc but they differ in size. The Rowantree is better for smaller weddings while the Caves can cater for much larger weddings.

Just to give you a little bit of background about the venues, the building itself sits on Niddry Street which takes you from the Grassmarket area down to Holyrood (palace and park). I believe the building at one point was used as the royal stables and while you can’t see any evidence of the stables the building is so atmospheric. It’s really dark, always a little damp, the lighting from my point of view is a nightmare but it’s just awesome. It’s easily one of my top 10 wedding venues.

Dave and Jen, who were the groom and bride for this wedding, had a lot of really fun ideas for their wedding which really came through on the day. When they walked down the aisle for the wedding reception they placed AC/DC or whatever it was and rocked out with blow up air guitars. Super hilarious and everyone laughed. I also discovered they do boxercise / kickboxing classes so when we did their couple photos they incorporated some of this and it was absolutely brilliant.

The whole day went really smoothly. The organisers at the venue are great, every wedding I’ve done there to date has been super smooth. It’s always as mentioned a challenging venue with it’s ever changing lights. It’s also really hot so I always sweat like crazy when I work there but I still absolutely love it.

I also really loved working with Dave and Jen on the day. They were a brilliant couple to work with and all of their guests seemed really happy and the ones I spoke to were really nice. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves but I hope you like the photos as much as I do and can see what a great wedding this was. Hopefully I’ll be at the Caves and Rowantree really soon.
