Lothian Chambers Dome Wedding
Fiona and Stephen rented a self catering apartment at 1 Parliament Square which overlooks St Giles Cathedral and the Royal Mile and is literally just a minute’s walk from Lothian Chambers. The apartment was large, perfectly positioned and a real pleasure to take photos within. It was also really interesting watching a Royal Mile performer from above rather than on the street. I spent roughly three hours capturing preparation shots at their apartment and preparation shots were important to them as they only had a really small wedding party on the day. I’ve shared just a small handful of photos from the apartment as there were a lot of children running around though.
I mentioned above and I’ve mentioned elsewhere about Lothian Chambers being retired. I’ve been photographing weddings there since 2008 and they started hosting wedding ceremomies around 2007, so I’ve been with them almost the whole time they’ve been open but the council have moronically decided to get rid of the venue. It will become some kind of french consulate and museum although why we need a French consulate smack bang in the centre of Edinburgh’s Old Town I don’t know. I think this is a massive loss to so many people.
But anyway, the ceremony was typical Lothian Chambers, short, sweet but really lovely. The ceremony took around 15 minutes and we followed this up by taking some couple’s photos as well as group photos inside Lothian Chambers.
Following this we went into Old Town, took some photos around St Giles then headed off to The Dome.
The Dome is literally the most stunning. A former bank (I believe), the Dome’s central feature is the bar with it’s stunning Dome ceiling. The Dome also hosts afternoon tea as well as spaces for banquets, weddings and so forth. It’s been a couple years since I last visited the Dome and while other venues like the Signet Library and the Witchery make you go “wow, this is pretty”, the Dome makes you go “f**k me this is beautiful” (or at least it does me). it’s very very pretty and even though I’ve yet to eat in there the service I have seen has been really excellent.
I was with the wedding party for around 7 or 8 hours in total. It wasn’t a traditional wedding in the sense they would have a meal, lots of speeches and a dance in the evening so I left once they sat down in their room at the Dome but I thoroughly enjoyed being party of their wedding and both Fiona and Stephen were an absolute joy to work with.
In terms of other things going on, it’s been a couple weeks since I last updated this website and for good reason, I’ve been really crazy busy. As you may or may not know I spend two days of my week photographing cars for a number of car dealers around Edinburgh and then I spend 2 days at college. I’m still doing very well with my photography business but I’ve always regretted not getting a degree and at some point we will move abroad (not for a few years yet!) but depending on where we move to I may need a degree.
I’ve been building websites for a number of years, I enjoy doing it and I’m pretty good at it so I decided to go full in and learn web design properly. I’ve just finished my final graded unit for the first year two months early and we’ve got exams going up at the beginning of May so my focus has had to be on that.
I lost one of my big car photography jobs (for Pentland Land Rover in Newbridge) but I’ve picked up regular work in Stirling which I’m really enjoying. I’ve been doing more timelapse photography for St John’s Church and I’ve been updating the Cornerstone Centre website I built for them. Liv, my wife, has been picking up more teaching classes for students from Taiwan so we’ve been busy (almost) duplicating her website Liv Wan Illustration into Chinese (livwanillustration.com to livwanillustration.com.tw). This has been a lot of work so as you can see I’ve been stupidly busy.
I love being busy, I love meeting all of my photography clients, I’m really enjoying college, love my new home and I’m super excited to see what else happens in 2017. But for today, check out my Lothian Chambers Dome Wedding below and keep visiting to see all the new exciting jobs and developments I have going on.
