Lothian Chambers and The Raeburn Wedding
The Raeburn is a luxury boutique hotel in the popular Stockbridge area and is a really great venue. It’s child friendly, you can have a beer and burger in the bar with your child and the food is both excellent and reasonable in price. I first visited The Raeburn a couple years ago when I was working for TripAdvisor I really liked it. I’ve also eaten in both the bar and restaurant and each time everything has been excellent.
I’ve also just discovered at the time of publishing this article the final details for Lothian Chambers being leased out. I’m pretty friendly with a few members of staff at Lothian Chambers and first heard the building might be sold or leased out a year ago and it’s now been finalised. Lothian Chambers is to be leased out and turned into a French Embassy/museum/historical/educational site. I think this is absolutely tragic. Edinburgh is losing one of it’s best wedding venues and yes it’s going to save the council some money but it’s going to affect local businesses. I’ll write about this in the next couple of days.
But back to this wedding, I was booked several weeks before Sara and Aaron’s wedding and Sara initially contacted me, said she loved my photography and wanted to book me. I met her briefly before the wedding, went over photos and ideas and that was it. Dead easy.
On the day Sara looked really amazing and the ceremony itself was brief but really lovely. There were two readings during the ceremony which were short and lovely then after the ceremony we took some photos inside the chambers, headed outside and did a few group shots. We didn’t have a lot of time between the ceremony and going to the Raeburn and also the weather was a bit iffy but we did have time to take some photos around St Giles, the law courts and the assembly rooms on the mound.
After the mound we jumped in their car for the day and headed down to the Raeburn at which point it rained. We didn’t have time to do all the couple’s shots and group shots in town so it was decided we would do the smaller group shots at the Raeburn and it worked out quite well. Towards the back of the venue there’s a small bacony that’s really quite pleasant so we did the group shots there and it worked out perfectly.
Sara and Aaron were an absolute pleasure to work with, very easy to work with and took direction really well. I really do think it’s a massive shame Lothian Chambers is going (apparently they will still allow people to get married there but we’ll see. Hope you like the photos below.
