Lothian Chambers and The Hub Wedding
December 10, 2012

Lothian Chambers and The Hub Wedding. I’ve shot many weddings at Lothian Chambers, probably in the region of 30-40 but most of these bookings are really short jobs of around 2 hours. While there’s nothing wrong with this, in fact I love small weddings as they can be a lot more intimate and have a completely different feel to them, I love shooting big weddings and being able to document a whole wedding.

So it was absolutely great when I took a booking for Rachel and Graeme which would be made up of preparation shots, the wedding ceremony and evening reception.

Rachel stayed at the Fraser Suites on St Giles Street, literally opposite Lothian Chambers and it’s a really nice little hotel. We’ve driven or walked past it literally dozens/hundreds of times but never really noticed the hotel but inside the rooms are really lovely. I also had the pleasure of working with Keith (the hairdresser) who I had worked with at Gillian and Dominic’s wedding at Prestonfield House Hotel in April 2011. I’ve created a link for Keith on the home page of this blog as I think his skills are really excellent.

Following about an hour’s preparation photos I headed over to Lothian Chambers and took some photos of guests mingling while waiting for Rachel to arrive. Rachel and Graeme’s wedding was a really big affair of around 80-100 people and with it being a Saturday the suite they booked at Lothian Chambers, the City of Edinburgh Suite, was booked out for the day so sadly things didn’t seem to be particularly efficient on the part of the venue but thankfully the ceremony was only a few minutes late.

After the ceremony the wedding party headed over to the front steps for two group shots, one really normal and one really fun. For group shots the main steps of St Giles are absolutely fantastic but only if you have a really big wedding party. If you have a wedding party of just a dozen or so people it doesn’t really work as the tourists will still hang around but for big groups the tourists tend to either disperse or take photos themselves.

After the group shots (we also took some group shots on the side steps) we then took some photos around Old Town before heading up the venue of their reception, The Hub. I’ve shot the one wedding at the Hub before and it’s an awesome venue. The location is perfect and I absolutely love this venue. I also have to commend Rachel and Graeme for the wedding breakfast. They went for the usual three course meal but instead of the usual “pea soup starter, steak main and chocolate tart dessert” they went for a meat and cheese platter for the starter (which looked delicious) and they had a hog roast for the main.

I must state a fact, I LOVE hog roasts. If I were allowed to I would completely gorge myself on crackling and drink apple sauce by the mug full.

So the whole day was absolutely fantastic. Everything was paced well, the couple were great and I loved the venues.
