G&V Hotel Lothian Chambers Wedding
The G&V Hotel has only been around for a few years and it was formerly the Missoni Hotel but from what I can see it hasn’t changed much except for the name. The difference with this wedding was it was the first time I’ve seen a room in the G&V and they’re different from what I expected but really nice with stunning views of the city and Arthurs Seat.
I was booked for Vicky and Sandy’s wedding a few months before and had an initial meeting with Vicky a couple months before the wedding itself. Something I found quite interesting during the booking, largely because it has been mentioned to me a few times this year, is one of the couple (the groom in this instance) was ok with being me a deposit for the wedding but didn’t want to pay me the final balance until the day of the wedding in case I didn’t turn. Ironically the couple the day before, and at the same venues, were the same.
It seems there are a lot of horror stories going around of people making bookings with photographers then not turning up. Scam artists if you will. Quite how somebody could do this, take someone’s money and not turn up to their wedding is disgusting. Those kinds of people are absolute scumbags!
So from my point of view, not being paid beforehand is a little annoying financially and it’s a shame people can’t trust me entirely based on my really extensive portfolio but I can understand why. Just as both couples and other people have said, there are many really dodgy people around and it can be a lot of money to hand over just to lose.
But back to the wedding, great fun. I arrived at the G&V Hotel nice and early, took a load of preparation photos then headed over to Lothian Chambers to photograph Vicky and Sandy’s wedding. It was a pretty decent sized wedding and there were certainly enough people to photograph there. The ceremony was typical Lothian Chambers, short but sweet. I took photos during the ceremony, some couple shots afterwards, as well as some fun shoots, then we headed outside and took some photos on the steps of St Giles Cathedral as well as in the nearby archways.
Vicky and Sandy decided at this point that was enough but I managed to capture a lot of photos, everyone including myself had fun and their wedding was really great.
Right now it’s Christmas time in Edinburgh so I’ll be updating my website with Christmasy things that are going on. I’m also moving home on the 28th/29th December (3 days after xmas!! Argh!!) but we’re moving to a really posh area so our daughter can go to a really good school. But I’ll write more about this over Christmas/New Year.
