Edinburgh Castle Duddingston Golf Club Wedding

edinburgh castle wedding

I”ve photograhed maybe getting on towards a dozen or so weddings at Edinburgh Castle and only one of these has taken place in the Gatehouse. The Gatehouse if you’re curious is the building immediately above the main entrance opposite the red phone boxes. It’s a lovely little space to get married in although it is quite challenging with the small window. It does however offer awesome views of the city and feels very private.

A couple weeks ago I photographed a pre shoot for Andrew and Vicki in Holyrood Park and I knew they would be great to work with but something that really excited me, apart from working at the castle, was how undemanding they would be. They literally wanted a group shot of everyone then I had free reign to do whatever I wanted. How awesome! I did kind of insist on the day they take some family shots, just in case they regretted not capturing any, but they were mega easy to work with.

It was also nice to have Liv take photos with me. I’ve photographed several hundred weddings, or thereabouts, to date and the vast majority I did on my own but it’s really nice to have some company with me. I’ve been having a back problems recently, which doesn’t affect me working that much, but for example I photographed most of the speeches before the wedding meal but then she did a couple. It gives me a break which is great.

But overall this was a really great wedding. The day absolutely flew by which is always a really good sign. Andrew, Vicki and their wedding guests were great to be around and we really enjoyed the whole day. Also thanks for the meal guys (if you’re reading this), much appreciated and really good!

Duddingston Golf Club

I’ve had mixed opinions about Duddingston Golf Club in the past. It’s always been well hosted but it hasn’t always been presented that well but I thought the place looked great for this wedding. We couldn’t go far onto the grass as it had been raining but Duddingston Golf Club suited Andrew and Vicki’s wedding perfectly. Whether it was Andrew and Vicki or the golf club themselves, I thought the place looked really great.

I also had my first experience talking on a microphone to people. The wedding party was pretty big but turned really(!) big in the evening and it was decided really quickly to do a group shot of everyone. So a quick shout at everyone, a couple cheesy jokes and my usual countdown 3-2-1 and say a word and it was done. Dead easy!

But anyway, great wedding and all venues really impressed me!
