Dynamic Earth

It must be at least five or six years since I last photographed a wedding at Dynamic Earth and it’s a shame as it’s a really unique venue in a really cool location. Dynamic Earth is a perfect wedding for a less traditional wedding and Nicole and Alex, who hired me to photograph their wedding, were definitely untraditional.

I’m sure you must be aware of what a traditional wedding is. You start with preparation shots in the morning, then the ceremony followed by group shots. Next is couple shots, photos of the drinks reception then the meal, speeches, cutting the cake then first dance.

This wedding had no preparation photos, no speeches, barely a first dance, the bride wore Kermit the Frog doc martens but it was super relaxed and really good fun to photograph as a result. Don’t get me wrong, I love a traditional wedding and I’ve been to hundreds of them but it’s great to see people take their wedding with a pinch of fun. You should also check out the photos of the wedding cake, how awesome does it look. Liv (my wife) and I have always joked if we renew our vows and we have to have a traditional cake, we want a choccywoccydoodah style wedding cake (sadly they’re now closed down) and Nicole and Alex’s cake is the closest I’ve seen to one of their cakes.

Historically I haven’t been a big fan of Dynamic Earth and the exhibition in the basement, which is free to wedding guests once it has closed to the public, was a bit short but if you have a really fun couple you go from a fairly boring wedding to a really great wedding in a great venue.

On the day we had planned to go off site to take some photos, possibly on top of Arthurs Seat or a similar location, but in the end we decided to stay on site but thankfully the weather held out for us. When the wedding party had their meal I walked over to the local Tesco for a sandwich and the temperature had dropped and it was chucking it down with rain.

So this wedding. Alex and Nicole were a fantastic couple to work with, their wedding party was the perfect size at 38 people, everyone was relaxed, fun and it was all around a great wedding.
