Dalmahoy Edinburgh Wedding
Dalmahoy Edinburgh Wedding. Now this was a simply awesome wedding. I’ve photographed over 300 weddings and each one has had it’s great moments. Most couples have been great to work with, the wedding parties great, but there are always weddings that stick out for whatever reason. This could be a funny event, a shocking event, or just an event (wedding) where the wedding has been so much fun that it will always stick out to you.
Kim and Donald’s wedding at the Dalmahoy in Edinburgh is one such wedding. I photographed their first wedding at South Queensferry Registrars Office during the pandemic but due to the restrictions at the time it was impossible to have a large party. Jump forward 18 months or so and they finally had their big wedding in April. Their wedding was originally due to take place in September but Kim is pregnant with twins, with the due date being within a week of their September date, so they rushed it forward and again what an incredible wedding.
The Dalmahoy is a cool venue, especially when the chapel at the bottom of the hill is in use. I’ve photographed a few weddings at the Dalmahoy but only one, which incidentally was one of my very first weddings, in the chapel at the bottom. So, my day was arrive at the venue, take some preparation shots, head to the church, lots of photos, back to the venue for group shots then couple shots and then into the evening.
The couple’s shots were so much fun to capture as I know Donald quite well and I’m getting to know Kim more, and both are mega fun to photograph and work with. We did the group shots on the stairs to the back of the hotel then the couples shots towards the lake right behind the hotel.
This was one of those weddings where there were too many highlights to list, but a huge highlight from the day were the evening celebrations. Donald is originally from Zimbabwe, while Kim is from South Africa, and they had lots of Zimbabwe and South African celebrations. They hired Zulu dancers and performers who were really spectacular to watch.
Definitely one of my top 3 weddings of all time!
I also must give a shout out to the videographer they used. Kim and Donald hire We Are One Weddings Films, and this is the first time I’ve come across them, and they were great. Very professional but also good fun to talk to and work with. Definitely recommend them!
